My Top 5 Favorite Historical Basketball (NBA) Moments
1: Russell Westbrook’s MVP season in 2017
In the 2016-2017 NBA season, Russell Westbrook redefined the game, clinching the MVP title with an unprecedented feat: averaging a triple-double, meaning he consistently attained double digits in points, rebounds, and assists per game. He also broke the record for most triple doubles in a single season with 42. He normalized triple doubles after that historic performance and changed the game forever.
This performance makes the top of my list because it made me fall in love with the game of basketball. His way of playing the game made me enjoy basketball to a whole different level. Not only he did history over and over again that season, but he did it in a very spectacular fashion and he became my favorite player since.
2: Lebron James's Championchip in 2016
In the 2016 NBA Finals, LeBron James orchestrated a historic comeback for the Cleveland Cavaliers against the Golden State Warriors, overcoming a 3-1 deficit. Displaying unmatched skill and leadership, James propelled his team to victory with dominant performances, including a pivotal triple-double in Game 5 and a defining block in Game 7. His resilience and determination not only secured Cleveland's first NBA championship but also solidified his legacy as one of the game's all-time greats.
This historical makes my list because it is arguably one of the best finals performance in NBA history. No teamhad ever came back from a 3-1 deficit in NBA history and Lebron did it agaisnt arguiably one of the best NBA teams in history. the warriors had a record of 73 wins and only 9 losses during that year. Also the faact that it was for Lebron's hometown makees it much morespecial.
3: Stephen Curry’ Unanimous Back to Back MVPs
Steph Curry made NBA history with back-to-back MVP awards in 2015 and 2016, becoming the league's first unanimous MVP in the latter. Curry's ability to hit shots from anywhere on the court and his knack for making the impossible seem routine left fans and opponents alike in awe. His unanimous MVP selection in 2016 affirmed his status as one of the greatest players of his generation, solidifying his legacy as a transformative figure in the sport.
This achievement makes my list because i think it is one of the most spectacular individual achievements ever done by any NBA player, let along a 6'3 point guard. Stephen Curryis in my oponion the greatest point guard in NBA history and he changed the game forever with his incredible shooting ability. Being a unanimous MVP is very impressive but doing it while getting the MVP trophy for back to back years is pretty insane.
4: Derrick Rose’s MVP Season in 2011
In 2011, Derrick Rose captured the NBA's Most Valuable Player award, etching his name in basketball lore. His MVP season was marked by jaw-dropping plays and clutch performances that left fans in awe. Despite facing formidable opponents, Rose elevated his game to new heights, guiding the Bulls to the best record in the league. His relentless drive and unmatched determination endeared him to fans worldwide.
This performance makes my list because Derrick Rose is one of the most explosive point guards which is my favorite basketball playstyle. His playstyle was incredible and his athletic capability was out of this world. In 2011, he became the youngest player to earn the MVP trophy in NBA history and is very deserving of it. His career declining injury at a young age makes him one of sports biggest "what if"s.
5: Russell Westbrook’s 182nd Triple-Double in 2021
In 2021, Russell Westbrook etched his name in NBA history by recording his 182nd career triple-double, surpassing Oscar Robertson's long-standing record. With his electrifying athleticism and unparalleled court vision, he consistently filled the stat sheet with points, rebounds, and assists. Westbrook's record-breaking triple-double epitomized his tenacity, resilience, and enduring impact on the game of basketball.
I put this milestone as my 5th pick because once again, Russell westbrook is my favorite player. His season for the Wizards in 2020-2021 was very underrated. He broke the all-time triple double record in the NBA with 182. H also did it with spectacular fashion while filling the stat sheet with ridiculous numbers. His playstyle normalized triple doubles in today's NBA which means he left his mark on the game of basketball forever.
